WHERE WILL YOU GO WHEN YOUR HEART IS FREE: COVER SONGS
This is a collection of “bedroom recordings” from my studio apartment in a small alley off the Kham Thien market in Hanoi, Vietnam. These songs are directly or obliquely about the estrangement, exoticism and romance of living in a foreign land.

If you wish to listen to these songs on a CD player, you will have to first convert the files from mp3s to AIFF or .wav files. WHERE WILL YOU GO WHEN YOUR HEART IS FREE consists of 10 original songs and 10 covers–songs by friends of mine, and by songwriters I love, such as Bob Dylan, Tom Waits and Billy Bragg. Some of these cover songs express how I feel about living in Hanoi. Others are more concretely related to my friends here–I included Cat Power’s song “Lived in Bars” because I often sing it with my friend Duc when I visit his bar, Tadioto, and there’s a Sinead O’Connor for the simple reason that she was the childhood hero of a girl I dated. I sang “Boots of Spanish Leather” for Kate and Tito before I left Seattle, and always feels like my farewell to America in reverse.
